Second Day
We drive toward Antakya (=Antioch). Here you will visit the St. Peters cave and church and the famous Mosaic Museum of Antakya. One overnight in Antakya.
Third Day
Drive
towards the Nemrut mountain. You will visit
the funeral Mound on the Nemrut mountain,
Kahta National Park and see the first Roman
bridge. Overnight
in Kahta.
Fourth & Fifth Day
Today our tour will bring you to Sanli Urfa. Here you will visit the pool with the sacred carps, see the beautiful Mosque and walk over the bazaar. Of course we will take you to Haran to, the place where Abraham supposed to have lived, with its typical beehive houses. Two overnight stays in Sanli Urfa.
Sixth & Seventh Day
Today
we travel on towards Mardin and Diyarbakir. In Diyarbakir
you will visit the great basalt walls and
gates, said to be second in extent only
to the Great Wall of China; The Meryem Ana
church, today still used by Syrian Orthodox
also called Jacobites. In Mardin
we take you for a walk through a lovely
old city center with its vivid bazaar. Of
course you will be taken to the monastery
of Mar Hanania (Deyrul Zafaran), where Aramenic,
the language of Jesus, is still the liturgical
tongue. Once this monastery was the seat
of the Syrian Orthodox patriarchate. Outside
Mardin on the Tür Abdin plateau you visit the Mar Gabriel monastery, home of the Archbishop of Tür Abdin. Two overnight stays in Diyarbakir.
Eigth & Ninth Day
From Diyarbakir we move on to Tatvan. On the way you will see the Malabade bridge (from old Mesopotamian architecture). Arriving in Tatvan you visit the Nemrut-Cilo mountain. This mountain splits Van Lake and a cold crater lake. We leave Tatvan and on our way visit the Akdamar Church (Armenian origin). We drive on till Van in the total east of Turkey. Here you visit the Van Kale dating back till Urartian times (13th till 7th century BC), the Van Museum. Two overnight stays in Van.
Tenth Day
We travel more towards the north till we see the Mt. Ararat or as the Turks call it: Agri. This is the mountain where Noah's Arc should have come to rest.. You will go to Dogubeyazit and visit Ishak Pasa Palace (1685). One overnight stay in Dogubeyazit.
Eleventh Day
Today
the travel will go on till Erzurum. Erzurum
has the Erzurum Citadel, dating back to
5th century AD, and the Çifte Mirareli medrese, dating from Seljuk times; 1200. One overnight stay in Erzurum.
Twelfth Day
Trabzon is on the program for today. You will visit the Sumela Monastery (Byzantine) and the Aya Sofya church, which now is a museum. One overnight stay in Trabzon.
Thirteenth Day
From
Trabzon we go on to Ünye. The place where Emre Yunus was born. He was a famous Turkish mystical poet from the 14th century. You will visit the Eski Hamam, which used to be a church and the Ünye castle (Byzantine).
Fouteenth Day
The Kangal fishes of Sivas are next on the program. These fishes eat away your skin problems. It seems to be helpful for psoriasis. Overnight stay in Sivas.
Fifteenth & Sixteenth Day
Today
we drive to the Cappadocia area. In Cappadocia
you will visit: Üçhisar village and castle, Göreme Valley, Towers of Peri (Ürgüp), Devrent Valley, Mustafa Pasa, Göreme open air museum and Derinkuyu (underground city), to mention some highlights of these days. Two overnights in Cappadocia.
Seventeenth & Eightteenth Day
Today we will travel to Konya, the religious city of Turkey, with its beautiful Blue Mosque and the Mevlana Museum. Overnight stay in Konya.
Nineteenth till Twentysecond Day
The last 4 overnights of this tour will be spend in Kizkalesi. The Mediterranean sea is waiting for a refreshing dip, a lovely beach and many historical sights are around.
