Goksu Delta, bird sactuary

We are leaving Kizkalesi heading west towards Tasucu, a small Turkish harbour city. The Göksu Delta lays just before the city of Tasucu and occupies lots of different more or less endangered species. Arriving at the Göksu delta, also known as the Bird Sanctuary, we will have a long walk in this beautiful nature area. There are lots of different species, especially birds and turtles, living there. Green peace has had a campaign and made the area a protected one. This is of course very good for all the bird loving people. Especially April and September are good months to visit the delta. This is the time the birds are starting to move and big groups of different species are to be seen at that time.

Time to drive on to Aya Thecla, where among the ruins you will find a church built in her honour. Thecla was the first Christian teacher and was greatly inspired by St. Paul. Thecla, coming originally from the city of Konya, choose the area of Silifke and surroundings as her area to hide herself in the time she was being pursued for her thoughts, belief and trying to preach them to others. In the end the Christian belief was being accepted by the rulers of those days and Thecla could in the end freely teach her belief.
