Uzuncaburc

From Kizkalesi you will drive towards Uzuncaburç. On the way we will stop at Karakabakli. Here we see the remains of an Byzantine settlement. Ruins of gates, streets, sarcophagus and basilicas are among the many remains. Especially worth visiting is the double store house, which still has two floors on top of each other.Continuing our way we will have also possibilities to visit Yilan Kale (Snake's Castle).

We will continue or trip towards the village of Uzuncaburç. In this area you'll find the remains of two ancient cities, which have their roots in the Hellenistic period: Diocaesarea and Olba.

Olba used to be the civil center and Diocaesarea was the cult and religious center. Later on Diocaesarea became more important and with this it became both a civil and religious center. Therefore you find the remains of an old Zeus temple, but also of a theatre, parade gate and city gate. Olba has still the leftovers of a very nice aqueduct. This covers the Seytan gorge, which leads to Kizkalesi.

On your way back to Silifke you can enjoy the great view of the Göksu valley and delta. After all these temples priest-kings and serene nature it's time to think about our earthly needs. Time for lunch.
