Alahan Monastery

Driving toward Silifke, seeing the citadel, we just have to visit it. It's irresistible. Then we move on into the Göksu Valley. Following the river we arrive at the point where were under never cleared up circumstances Frederick Barbarossa spent his last hours. Here is a German monument to his memory. We drive deeper into the valley till we have to take the turn to Alahan Monastery.

Adam Kayalar

7 km away from Kizkalesi into the mountains you find, what the Turks call, Adamkayalar, the man-rocks. To reach this Roman graves you have to descend an old staircase. Parts of this descend are steep! Looking down you see the Seytan Valley leading back to Kizkalesi.

Kanli Divane

Driving towards the east, immediately leaving Kizkalesi, you arrive in the neighbour village of Ayas, or known in old times as Elaiussa- Sebaste. Here you find the remains of an old city. Among them are the remains of aqueducts, temples, tombs and a theater. In recent years archeologists have been active with excavating.

Then we drive on to Kanli Divane or with its ancient name, Canytelis. A huge sight with Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine remains.

Bird Sanctuary

We are leaving Kizkalesi heading west towards Tasucu, a small Turkish harbour city. The Göksu Delta lays just before the city of Tasucu and occupies lots of different more or less endangered species.

Uzuncaburc

From Kizkalesi you will drive towards Uzuncaburç. On the way we will stop at Karakabakli. Here we see the remains of an Byzantine settlement. Ruins of gates, streets, sarcophagus and basilicas are among the many remains. Especially worth visiting is the double store house, which still has two floors on top of each other.
