Turkey is an enormous big country. It covers 2200 km from west till east and 910 km from north to south. That makes Istanbul as far away from Venice as it is from the eastern border. The country lies between 35 and 42 degrees north latitude and 25 and 44 degrees east longitude. In GMT times it puts Turkey +2.00 GMT from October till April. When summertime is applied it is +3.00 hours GMT. (April through October).

Anatolian History dates back to more than 7500 BC. This makes Turkish history one of the oldest on earth. Anatolia has been the cradle of many civilizations. A country connecting wet and east, old and new, all living side by side, making a most interesting, colourful country.

The first impression of Turkish society is a westernized one, especially in the cities, but rural areas are in general more conservative and religious. The modern people see the western culture as their ideal, but the Turkish culture is different from the European one. Traditional attitudes and behaviour will always be glimpsed through, as modern as they might look on the outside.

From the population living in Turkey 99 % are Muslim. The Islam also recognizes Christianity and Judaism. For example Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jesus, Moses and mother Mary and other wise (wo)men and or saints are considered holy to Islam too.
